OUR KĀPALAMA
The Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus is a campus like no other. I have spent most of my life on this campus. An interesting thing about the campus is that the building names have a deeper meaning. The upper campus buildings are all named after women because they are seen as higher. The lower campus buildings are all named after men. The highest building on the campus is Keopuolani Dormitory, it is named after Kamehameha the Great's first wife. Another building on campus with a deep meaning is Kaahumanu Gym, it is named after Kamehameha the Great's favorite wife. The gym is named after her because she was one to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The main class building on the upper campus is Konia, named after Pauahi's mom. The structure at Konia is very feminine and rounder shapes. The main class building on the lower campus is Paki, named after Pauahi's father. The structure at Paki is more masculine and plain. The auditorium is named Keelikolani, after Pauahi's cousin who gave her all her land when she passed away. The auditorium is named after Keelikolani because she enjoyed music.
