About Me
My name is Lauren Kahealani Burns but I go by Kahea. I was born and raised on the west side of Oahu in Nānākuli. I am currently a senior at Kamehameha Schools. The wind name of my hometown is called Kaiaulu and the rain name is.
Malama Honua to me is a lifestyle and mindset that represents the importance of taking care of the land we live on so that it will do the same for us. Some experiences I’ve had that helped me shape my Malama Honua mindset would be that I dance hula and this past summer we had to harvest ka la au, laamea, and ali’I poe seeds. Since we were taking from our land we also had to give back and cut invasive species and extend a hiking trail so that the native plants can continue to flourish. It’s a natural balance that our kupunas believed in which I believe connects to Malama Honua.
Some aspiration I have by being a in Malama Honua would be to make fun long lasting memories with my classmates while learning interesting topics. Aloha aina is the way you show love to our land. Aloha aina to me is picking up rubbish at the benches, hiking and admiring the views to remind myself that I am much smaller than the world I live in, and being proud to be from this island. I would want to create life long memories with my class mates.
